I am a stay-at-home mom, and my husband is the one who brings in a paycheck. I have recently been looking into trying to make money online. I started this blog to post all kinds of mom and baby posts, but I thought I could also take you guys along on my business ventures. I have started an Etsy shop with print on demand. If you don't know what print-on-demand is, it's a site where you can design products such as hats, shirts, jewelry, cups, and a bunch of other things. Once you design what you want, you can link those products to your Etsy, and you don't have to keep products or order any in advance. So, you don't have to worry about keeping merchandise or shipping the products out once you buy. So far, I have posted mom shirts and baby onsies. I also designed digital planners which I use all the time!
We all know inflation is crazy right now, so I wanted to try to find a way to still be able to stay home with our some while bringing in some income. My husband and I are in the process of buying a house, so we could use all the extra money we can get. At the time of posting this, I have made no sales but 38 people have viewed my shop. If you are interested in starting a print-on-demand shop, I will be listing below exactly what I did.
First, I downloaded Etsy and created a shop by following the steps it requires. The Etsy set-up will require you to add a product, so for this, I just added a random picture and details that I would later delete. After I set up the shop, I went to Printful and created an account with the same email I created Etsy with. This is a MUST to be able to connect your Printful to your shop. You need to find a niche that you like or want to pursue before you start designing. For example, the niche I picked was mom and baby-related products.
Next, you need to follow the steps on Printful to connect your Etsy shop. You will be prompted to do this right after you set up your account. Once your accounts are linked, you will need to create a Canva account. You will use Canva to create designs that you can download to your device. With Canva you can use templates for shirts, art, texts, and web designs. After you come up with your first design, download it to your device. Go to Printful, click the sidebar and select your Etsy shop. Then you will need to push the "add listing" button. From here you can select which type of product you would like to design such as a shirt. You can add your downloaded design to the product and follow the steps to see your mockup design, set your price, and then edit it on Etsy. Printful will automatically take you to Etsy and fill in the product details for you.
Lastly, you will need to post this listing on your Etsy shop. After this step is when I deleted the first listing I used as an example when I set up my Etsy shop. Now that you know the steps to post your products on Etsy with Printful, you can create as many product designs with Canva as you would like and start making money! A couple of tips I can give you is to try to post a few listings to your shop a day to keep traffic coming to your page and get reviews to build trust with customers. Also, you can copy your links from your shop to post them on Facebook and Pinterest to create more traffic to your shop. Pinterest and Facebook also allow you to promote your listings as ads so more people will see them.
I really hope that this post is helpful to anyone that is thinking about starting a print-on-demand shop as a side hustle! When I set it up for myself, it took me a little while to figure it out. If you need any additional help, there are several YouTube videos that give you a visual step-by-step. I will keep everyone updated as I learn more tips and tricks, and how the profit is going! I will also link my Etsy shop below for anyone that needs some inspo or just to check it out! Thank you for reading and I will post again this week.
